Advocate: A person who shares a referral code encouraging new customers to purchase a Liberty Trike.
Friend: An individual who receives a referral code from an Advocate and makes a qualifying purchase.
Eligibility:
- All customers with a Liberty Trike account are eligible to participate in the referral program, regardless of whether they currently own a Liberty Trike. As long as they have an account, they will have a referral promo code displayed on their account page.
- The program begins on September 16, 2024, and referrals made before this date are not eligible for rewards.
- The program is open to contiguous U.S. and Canadian residents only.
- If a participant earns $600 or more in rewards in a fiscal year, they will be required to submit a 1099 tax form (U.S. residents) or comply with local tax regulations (Canadian residents). Any customs or duties fees are the responsibility of the customer if located in Canada. Shipping costs for Canada delivery will also be the responsibility of the advocate.
Rewards:
- Between September 16, 2024, and December 31, 2024, Advocates who successfully refer two new Friends will receive one free Liberty Trike battery as a reward.
- Beginning January 1, 2025, Advocates will need to refer eight new Friends to qualify for a free battery.
- If an Advocate makes one referral in 2024, this referral will carry over into 2025 and count toward the total of eight required to earn a free battery.
- Advocates will receive one credit for every Liberty Trike or Like-New Liberty Trike purchased in a Friend's order. This means that if a Friend places an order with multiple trikes, the Advocate will receive multiple credits.
- Once an Advocate reaches the referral limit that qualifies them for a free battery, Liberty Trike will contact them via email to arrange the shipment.

- Referrals must meet the following criteria: the new customer must enter the Advocate’s promo code when placing their order, and they must purchase at least one product designated for the referral program by Liberty Trike.
- Posting referral codes publicly on any social media platform, including the Official Liberty Trike Owners Group, or in any other group or platform where the code may be widely disseminated, is strictly prohibited. - Liberty Trike reserves the right to disqualify participants from the program if fraudulent activity, abuse, or misuse of the referral program is detected.
Handling Phone and In-Store Orders:

The Story Behind the Liberty Trike Logo: A Tribute to Frank
The Liberty Trike logo is much more than a symbol of our brand; it embodies the essence of a remarkable man—my father-in-law, Frank. Each element of the logo captures the spirit of an old-fashioned gentleman, one whose demeanor and attire reflected his character and the integrity of his advice.
Frank was the epitome of a classic gentleman, always mindful of the impression he made on others. His style was distinctive and respectful, marked by a neatly worn fedora and polished wingtip shoes, complemented by crisply pressed khakis. This wasn’t just about looking good; it was about presenting himself in a way that showed he cared—about himself, about those around him, and about the world he engaged with.
Beyond his appearance, Frank's support and encouragement were unwavering. He took pride in my endeavors and taught me through his actions what it means to be a real man—caring, gentle, and kind. Frank's approach to life was about more than just personal integrity; he truly changed lives and inspired everyone he met. His gentle nature and kind spirit touched many, leaving a lasting impact that extended far beyond his immediate circle.
The logo traces its roots back to a memorable Thanksgiving many years ago, before Liberty Trike was born. I had converted a Schwinn tricycle to electric, and Frank, in his characteristic way, agreed to test it. There he was, an image of trust and wisdom, trying out the trike in front of our home. The photo I took that day, capturing Frank in his classic attire, inspired what would become the Liberty Trike logo.
Though Frank has since passed away, his influence remains vibrant and alive in every aspect of Liberty Trike. The logo not only represents our brand but also honors Frank's memory—a man whose advice you could trust, whose generosity knew no bounds, and whose presence continues to inspire and guide us. Through our logo, Frank rides on, an enduring symbol of the values we hold dear at Liberty Trike. His legacy of kindness, support, and inspiration continues to motivate us every day.

Tom Reagan: A Neighbor's Journey with Liberty Trike
Tom and Margot Reagan were more than just my next-door neighbors for over fifteen years; they were an inseparable couple who shared a life of love and laughter, united in marriage for over 58 years. As a Korean War veteran, Tom faced numerous challenges, especially later in life as he dealt with significant mobility issues that threatened his independence.
In 2015, when I was developing the first prototype of the Liberty Trike, I saw an opportunity to help Tom regain some of the freedom he was losing. Although my own grandmother was the first to try out the prototype, it was Tom who really showed me the impact it could have.
Despite his legs growing weaker each day, making it increasingly difficult for him to walk without the risk of falling, Tom embraced the chance to test the Liberty Trike. Around our cul-de-sac, he rode with a newfound energy, his eyes lighting up with each lap. The trike not only helped him move more freely but also improved his circulation and overall sense of well-being.
After Margot passed away, it became evident how much Tom relied on the trike. It was no longer just a tool for mobility; it was a lifeline to the outside world, helping him to cope with his loss and maintain some normalcy in his life. Every day, he would ride around the neighborhood, a simple activity that kept him connected to the community and the outdoors.
Tom's use of the Liberty Trike became a beacon of independence, not just for him but for everyone in our community. He showed us all that despite the challenges we might face with age, there are ways to live a fulfilling life with dignity and autonomy.
Sadly, Tom passed away a few years ago, but his legacy lives on in every Liberty Trike we build. His story continues to inspire me and our team to enhance the lives of seniors and anyone with mobility challenges, ensuring they can enjoy their freedom for as long as possible.
Tom Reagan was not just a neighbor. He was a testament to the spirit of resilience and the will to embrace life, no matter the obstacles. His journey with the Liberty Trike reminds us all of the profound difference a little independence can make.

Riding Into the Future: The Genesis of Liberty Trike
In 2008, as gas prices soared and the economy faltered, I faced a pivotal moment while commuting from New Hope, Pennsylvania to Manhattan. The daily grind of a two-and-a-half-hour journey each way, away from my newborn son, weighed heavily on me. Then, an NPR story about a couple using electric bikes to save on commuting costs sparked a transformative idea. Inspired, I ventured into the world of electric bikes, importing a basic conversion kit and collaborating with a local bike shop to modify a Trek cruiser. This first ride wasn’t just exhilarating; it promised a newfound freedom from the constraints of traditional commuting.
This experience laid the foundation for my business, EBikeKit, and eventually led to the creation of something even more special: the Liberty Trike. Designed in collaboration with America’s oldest tricycle maker, Worksman Cycles, the Liberty Trike was conceived to provide stable, simple-to-operate mobility solutions, particularly for seniors. Today, the Liberty Trike represents not just independence, but the fulfillment of life's potential regardless of age or mobility challenges. It embodies my belief in the power of mobility and my commitment to enhancing the lives of our users, inspiring me daily to continue innovating for a future where every pedal forward means moving towards a better quality of life.

The Superiority of Direct Drive Hub Motors in Electric Tricycles: A Practical Analysis
In the evolving landscape of electric tricycles, the choice of motor plays a pivotal role in determining the vehicle's reliability, ease of maintenance, and overall user experience. Among the available options, direct drive hub motors stand out for their simplicity, durability, and efficiency. This contrasts sharply with the use of geared motors, especially when repurposed as mid-drives in a rear drivetrain configuration, which introduces unnecessary complexity and potential challenges.
The Reliability and Simplicity of Direct Drive Hub Motors
Direct drive hub motors are celebrated for their straightforward design, lacking moving parts inside the motor itself, which could wear out or fail. This inherent simplicity translates into a lower likelihood of mechanical issues, making the system highly reliable over time. Additionally, these motors can easily incorporate a reverse function, allowing riders to navigate tight spaces with precision—a feature uniquely absent in tricycles powered by geared motors.
Unlike their geared counterparts, direct drive hub motors maintain consistent performance without the need for complex gear systems. This reliability is paramount for electric tricycles, where ease of use and maintenance are crucial, especially for riders who rely on their trike for daily mobility.
The Complications of Geared Motors and Rear Differentials
The adaptation of geared hub motors as mid-drives connected to a rear drivetrain presents a departure from conventional design wisdom. This setup often necessitates a differential to manage the motor's higher torque, addressing a problem that arises solely from this unconventional use. However, the addition of a differential not only complicates the tricycle's design but also introduces a potential point of failure.
Geared motors, particularly those not originally designed for mid-drive applications, can suffer from wear and tear on their internal components, such as nylon gears. Over time, these components may fail due to the increased heat and pressure, leading to costly repairs or replacements. Moreover, the complexity of this system can deter bike shops from undertaking repairs, leaving owners with limited support options.
Proven Performance vs. Unconventional Experiments
The choice to use direct drive hub motors in electric tricycles like the Liberty Trike is rooted in a desire to deliver a proven, user-friendly product. Hub motors eliminate the need for a rear differential—a component only necessary due to the torque characteristics of geared motors used in an atypical rear drivetrain setup. By avoiding these complexities, the Liberty Trike ensures a seamless experience for its riders, prioritizing reliability and ease of maintenance.
Furthermore, the reverse function enabled by hub motors is a testament to their adaptability and the thoughtful design of vehicles like the Liberty Trike. This capability is invaluable for users who require enhanced maneuverability in various settings, from parking to navigating indoor spaces.
Conclusion: Embracing Proven Reliability
As the electric tricycle market continues to expand, the debate over motor selection becomes increasingly relevant. The evidence strongly supports the use of direct drive hub motors for their simplicity, proven reliability, and the functional advantages they offer, including the ability to reverse. Meanwhile, the use of geared motors in a mid-drive setup, necessitating a rear differential, represents an untested approach that may introduce long-term reliability concerns and complicate maintenance and repairs.
For these reasons, the Liberty Trike remains committed to using direct drive hub motors, ensuring that riders receive a dependable, user-friendly trike that stands the test of time. As the electric tricycle industry evolves, the value of proven, straightforward designs cannot be overstated, ensuring that riders enjoy the freedom of mobility without the worry of complex mechanical issues.
